JUMP TO FORUM DISCUSSION ABOUT THE SUGGESTED THEME The idea „Bridging Religions“ came up in my research about the cities, that will take part in this project: Berlin, Istanbul, Mostar, Novi Sad, Ljubljana. All of those cities have important bridges, that connect east and west - the “Oberbaum Bridge” (Oberbaum-Brücke) in Berlin, which was the border between East and West-Germany; - the “Bosphorus Bridge” in Istanbul, which connects orient and occident; connect Christianity and Islam - the “Old Bridge” (Stari Most) in Mostar, which gives the city it’s name, was destroyed in the Bosnian War in 1993, reconstructed in2004 and became part of the UNESCO’s world cultural heritage in 2005; stand for peace and freedom - the “Freedom Bridge” (Sloboda) in Novi Sad, which was destroyed in the Kosovo War and which was reconstructed in 2005; are the town’s landmark - the “Triple Bridge” (Tromostovje) in Ljubljana, which was first build in 1280. Bridges as symbol for connecting people, a symbol for communication, for getting together, whatever the differences may be. The idea is to bring two people from two different religious backgrounds together on a bridge and to make them enter a dialogue about their personal views on each religion. I think that the reason for religious motivated conflicts is the lack of information and the lack of having contact to people from other religions. If it will not be possible to bring two people together, I will pose some similar questions to one person only. Julia Wegenast
